What is the CBSE compartment (supplementary) exam?
A candidate who does not meet the passing criteria in one or more subjects is placed in the Compartment category. CBSE then holds a compartment examination so the student can clear the pending subject without losing an academic year. It applies to both Class 10 and Class 12.
Who is eligible for the CBSE compartment exam?
- Students placed in Compartment as shown on their result.
- A candidate marked Repeat in Practical (RP) reappears in the practical only — the theory marks are carried forward.
How to apply for the CBSE compartment exam
Compartment exams are typically held around July-August. The exact schedule is published in the official notice each year.
