The CBSE 9-point grading scale (A1 to E)
CBSE awards a grade per subject on a 9-point scale based on the marks range:
- A1 — 91 to 100
- A2 — 81 to 90
- B1 — 71 to 80
- B2 — 61 to 70
- C1 — 51 to 60
- C2 — 41 to 50
- D — 33 to 40
- E — below 33 (needs improvement)
What is CGPA in CBSE?
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the average of the grade points of your main subjects. Each grade maps to a grade point — A1 is 10, A2 is 9, and so on down the scale.
How to convert CBSE CGPA to percentage
CBSE's official indicative formula is: percentage = CGPA × 9.5. For example, a CGPA of 8.4 gives 8.4 × 9.5 = 79.8%.
- It is an indicative average across the grade band, not an exact reverse-calculation of your marks.
- Two students in the same grade band get the same indicative percentage from CGPA.
