Lost your board marksheet? How to get a duplicate 10th/12th marksheet

How to request a duplicate marksheet if your original is lost or damaged — from DigiLocker digital copies to board reprint procedures.

Try the free DigiLocker digital copy first

The quickest and free option is to retrieve your marksheet digitally. Most Indian school boards now issue legally valid digital marksheets through DigiLocker, a government platform that stores your academic documents. A DigiLocker copy is accepted by colleges, universities and employers in place of a printed marksheet, and you can access it anytime from your phone.

Start by checking whether your board has already issued your marksheet on DigiLocker. If it has, you can download or share it instantly — no fee, no waiting, no reprint application needed. This works for Class 10 and Class 12 results.

How to apply for a duplicate marksheet, step by step

Each board sets its own procedure, so the exact steps and required documents differ. Check your board's official website for the current application form and fee before applying. Most boards accept applications throughout the year, but processing time during peak seasons (immediately after results or before admissions) may be longer.

  1. 1

First check DigiLocker at results.digilocker.gov.in to see if your board has already issued a digital copy — if so, download it and use that.

  2. 2

If a physical duplicate is needed, visit your board's official website and look for the 'duplicate marksheet', 'reprint', or 'document services' section.

  3. 3

Download the duplicate-marksheet application form (some boards allow online application through a dedicated portal).

  4. 4

Fill in your personal details — name, roll number, class, exam year and contact information — as shown on your original marksheet.

  5. 5

Attach any required supporting documents, typically your school-leaving or conduct certificate, identity proof, and a copy of your registration or admission document.

  6. 6

Pay the prescribed fee stated in the official notice or application form (exact amounts vary by board and are updated each year).

  7. 7

Submit the form either to your school, your district education office, or the board's headquarters, depending on your board's procedure.

  8. 8

Track the status through the board's online portal if available, or follow up with the issuing office after a typical wait of 2–4 weeks.

Documents you need and the prescribed board fee

A fee is prescribed by each board for duplicate marksheets. Fees range from a few hundred to about 500 rupees and are set in the board's official notice each year — do not rely on older amounts. Most boards accept payment online, by DD (demand draft) or cash at their office. Check the current fee and accepted payment modes on your board's official website before applying.

  • A completed duplicate-marksheet application form (download from your board's website).
  • Proof of identity — school ID card, Aadhaar, passport or voter ID.
  • Proof of school attendance — school-leaving certificate, conduct certificate, or class record document.
  • A photocopy of your original marksheet or result slip, if available (to verify your details).
  • In some cases, an affidavit (sworn statement) from a notary if the original is lost and you cannot produce any copy.

Damaged vs lost original — and filing a report

If your original marksheet is physically damaged (water damage, torn pages, faded text), you may be able to apply for a replacement based on the condition. Boards typically ask for the damaged original to be submitted along with the application. Photographs of the damage may also be required.

If your marksheet is completely lost, some boards ask you to file a written report with your local police station or the concerned education authority. This is especially important if you are applying on the basis of loss rather than damage. Keep a copy of this report with your application.

  • For a damaged marksheet: submit the original (if legible) or a detailed photograph showing the damage.
  • For a lost marksheet: include a written report of loss filed with the police or the district education office, or make a formal declaration on an affidavit.
  • Either way, the board will reissue the same certificate with an identical copy of your marks — no changes are made.

Duplicate marksheet FAQ

**How long does it take to get a duplicate marksheet?** Processing time is typically 2–4 weeks from the date of application, depending on how busy the board is and whether all your documents are complete. Expect longer waits immediately after result announcements. Some boards expedite applications on request for an additional fee.

**Can I get a duplicate marksheet online?** Many boards now accept online applications through their official website or a dedicated reprint portal. Maharashtra Board offers an online reprint service at reprint.mahahsscboard.in/reprint/. Check whether your board has an online facility; if not, you will need to apply in person or by post.

**Is a DigiLocker copy legally valid in place of the original?** Yes. A marksheet downloaded from DigiLocker is a legally recognised certified copy and is accepted by colleges, universities, employers and government offices. You do not need a physical reprint if you can produce the DigiLocker copy.

**What if I cannot find my roll number or school code?** Contact your school — they have your enrolment and registration records and can provide your roll number and help you retrieve your exam year and other details needed for the application.

**Is there a time limit to apply for a duplicate?** No strict time limit exists; you can apply for a duplicate marksheet many years after your exam. However, some boards may ask for additional proof if a long time has passed. It is better to apply sooner rather than later to avoid documentation challenges.
